Traveler

Unpacking,

I release a spider

who has folded himself

into my clothes

Wobbly and wrinkled,

he staggers but still walks,

stunned to find himself

still alive,

1000 miles from home

I take him outside

welcome him to California

and release him

to the backyard challenges

of accidental immigration.
